Syracuse, August 8, 2017
A new Fixed Base Operator (FBO) hangar is under construction at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority, Million Air® and its partners are hosting a Steel Beam Raising Ceremony on Wednesday, August 9 at 10:00 am at 110 Air Cargo Road in Syracuse NY 13212 to celebrate Million Air ® Syracuse.
“The airport authority is excited to welcome the new Million Air® franchise to Syracuse Hancock International Airport. To see this level of investment and growth at the airport is at the core of the authority’s mission and vision for an airport that is an economic driver and community asset,” said Hancock Airport Executive Director, Christine Callahan.
Million Air®, a chain of fixed-base operators, provides upscale, private aviation services around the country and in three continents. The chain has been named Best Large FBO Chain by PRO Pilot Magazine for the past six years. Million Air Syracuse will be operated by Freeman Holdings Group (FHG), the largest Million Air® franchise operator with 12 locations throughout the US. The project at Hancock is the latest in their growth as a leading FBO operator and provider of aircraft services.
The ceremony marks a construction milestone for Million Air® Syracuse. The project is a design-build project by local construction manager Hueber-Breuer Construction assisted by QPK Design. The design team includes HIVE Design Collaborative of Kansas City. The Syracuse aviation terminal will have a generous passenger lounge, Hospitality Check-In area, a soda and coffee bar, quiet rooms, a state of the art theatre room, offices and a multi-media conference room. The facility will also include a flight planning area and provide services such as aircraft storage, fueling, ground handling, cleaning, and other aircraft services.
“With a location currently in Rome, NY, we feel like we have a good understanding of the upstate New York market”, said Scott Freeman, CEO of the Freeman Holdings Group. “When our new 11,000 sq foot terminal facility is completed along with our new 28,000 sq ft hangar, we are confident we can deliver a facility and service level that will be unrivaled at this airport”.
Million Air Syracuse is expected to be completed by March 2018.
MILLION AIR® SYRACUSE PARTNERS
Partnering on Million Air Syracuse is Freeman Holdings Group, Million Air®, Hueber-Breuer Construction Co., Inc., and Syracuse Jet Real Estate Management.
Feasibility and planning for the project began in 2012 by Syracuse Jet Real Estate Management, LLC. Mike Wetzer, Managing Partner, said: “our vision was to create a new front door to Central New York for business leaders, government officials, entertainers and other distinguished guests arriving by private aircraft.”
Wetzer is confident that having a brand new, world-class facility and operator, such as Million Air® translates into a first impression of renewal, growth, and optimism for the region. With immediate access to I-81, the facility is equally suited for emergency and first responder air-ground accessibility, coordination, and operations.
“By supporting investments at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, we are helping to provide new opportunities that attract residents, businesses, and visitors which in turn supports the regional momentum as Central New York continues to rise,” said Howard Zemsky, Empire State Development President, and CEO.
This nearly $10MM project represents the first private investment at Hancock in nearly 20 years. This project is made possible by support from Empire State Development (ESD), with a CFA (NYS Consolidated Funding Application) award of $810,000 in 2014.
